We have reserved a number of rooms in the following hostels and hotels for the nights 11th - 14th September (inclusive). These rooms will be held until the date specified, and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Edinburgh has a number of friendly, central hostels which provide cheap dormitory accommodation (typically in rooms containing around 10 beds), shared bathrooms, lounge/games room and self catering facilities.

Guest Houses (Bed & Breakfasts):

Here are details of just a few of the guest houses in Edinburgh.

A guest house is typically a large house, part of which is someone's home while the rest is used for guest rooms and a breakfast room. Some rooms may have a private bathroom and/or toilet. Others may require the guest to use a shared bathroom/toilet elsewhere in the house (but usually close to the room). Guest houses don't tend to have very many dedicated single rooms and those they do have can be quite small and in awkward places such as in the roof space. Our advice is to quiz the proprietor when booking. Prices are per person (the cheaper price is usually based on two sharing) and include a full breakfast of meats, egg, cooked tomatoes, etc., with cereals and toasted bread and a choice of coffee or tea also on offer.

NB: Check that the times during which breakfast is served are compatible with the conference schedule, bearing in mind that many guest houses are a significant distance from the venue.

The guest houses are rated by being given a number of stars. Generally, the more stars the better, but this may refer more to facilities provided than to cleanliness, helpfulness of the management, and the like.
