Return to the CIMCIM Welcome Page

Who is subscribed to the list

CIMCIM operates an e-mail list for Committee announcements and discussion of topics related to musical instruments in museums and collections. This list has been in operation since August 1995 and changed to its present host on 8th July 1996. Until 31st March 2008 CIMCIM-L was open to all.

The list, CIMCIM-L, is from 1st April 2008 open to members of CIMCIM only. All members are automatically subscribed. CIMCIM-L will be the main channel of communication within CIMCIM, alerting members to new issues of the Bulletin and announcements of CIMCIM meetings.

CIMCIM-L also serves as an forum for the discussion of all issues related to the fields of musical instrument curation, conservation, collections management, research and documentation both for members of CIMCIM.

The list is used for discussion of issues relating to collections of instruments, including acquisition policies, specific conservation problems, the mounting of exhibitions, publications, training of specialist museum staff, etc etc.

CIMCIM-L is also used by CIMCIM members to announce to colleagues new museum publications, exhibitions, meetings, and appointments.

Archives

The CIMCIM-L archives have now been consolidated on the lists.ed.ac.uk site. The former means of accessing the archives at the nrm.se site have been replaced by the very simple retrieval procedure described below. The archives are only available to list members.

The archives consist of all the postings to CIMCIM-L concatenated in monthly batches, in chronological order. The archives of the predecessor of CIMCIM-L, MICAT-L, are retrievable in the same way.

The archives at present consist the following files:-

To retrieve one of the archive files, send the following in the body (not the subject line) of an e-mail message to Majordomo@lists.ed.ac.uk

get cimcim-l filename

Two examples:

get cimcim-l cimcim-l.0509

get cimcim-l micat-l.9408

If in future you wish to check the filenames (or file sizes) of the archives, send the following in the body (not the subject line) of an e-mail message to Majordomo@lists.ed.ac.uk

index cimcim-l

Note: do not send these commands to the list itself ! Whatever you send cimcim-l@lists.ed.ac.uk will be submitted for distribution to all list members.
